The director of the Department on preparation to Euro-2012 on football Alexander Nechiporenko notes, that on the 9th of June the airport is going to receive 10,6 thousand fans, which will arrive by 94 flights. On the second match day, when the game between the national teams of Germany and Holland will be played, the airport will serve 13,8 thousand fans and about 9,9 thousand fans on the third day.

As the deputy city mayor on family, youth, sports and preparation to Euro-2012 issues Alexander Popov has informed, 120 volunteers will work at the Kharkiv airport in the match days.

De discussie over handhaving van de mensenrechten in het land laait op. Uit verschillende hoeken klinkt daarom de roep om een boycot van het toernooi. Daarnaast kampt Oekraïne met een enorme werkloosheid, met name onder jongeren. Zij belanden op straat en komen in aanraking met prostitutie en drugs.

Stichting Breath
Stichting Breath uit Capelle aan den IJssel maakt zich hard voor deze groep, die als uitschot van de samenleving wordt bestempeld. Met drie opvanghuizen in Oekraïne opent de stichting 9 juni een informatiecentrum in Charkov, de stad waar het Nederlands elftal alle groepswedstrijden speelt.

Het zogenoemde Breath Family Centre zal dienen als voorlichtings- en ontmoetingscentrum over en voor de opvang en begeleiding van Oekraïnse straatkinderen.
